Penrose Park Velodrome Open House

A little video we put together from the Penrose Park Velodrome Open House. It was a great night and no better way to kick of the race season than racing and BBQing.

Rumors, rumors….

Rumor has it that a little someone may be coming to town to teach a track clinic…..

Trailnet: We Know A Better Way

Trailnet has been doing some short videos called “We Know A Better Way” documenting folks in St. Louis who commute to work. The videos touch on a lot of the basic reasons why people commute in hopes to encourage more people to choose the lifestyle. Hopefully, when more people will see how easy it really is our streets will be a more bike commuter-friendly avenue for travel.

Scott Ogilvie is a St. Louis City Alderman in the 24th Ward. He is a huge bike advocate and lives it on a daily basis. He’s a commute, racer, and all around good guy. Thanks for everything you do for cycling in St. Louis, Scott.

As long as I have known Stephanine Co, she has been deeply involved in community-enriching projects in St. Louis. We worked on MOPRO’s Tour de Grove, The World Naked Bike Ride, and a few other bikey projects together. She is a very kind soul who continues her work now working for Great Rivers Greenway.

What’ll Be Your Space Jam?

SpokedSTL has been receiving more attention lately and because of this more folks are wondering what the organization is about. SpokedSTL was created as a way to give something back and to progress cycling in St. Louis. Our team represents people who ride their bikes everyday. They ride to work, the grocery store, the movies, and everywhere else. Why? Because they love cycling and the community that surrounds it. We race because it’s fun, but our team isn’t out on the course to destroy your best lap time. We simply want to be a part of the bigger picture. If there is fun to be had on two wheels know that we’ll be there, and we’ll be one of the first to offer you a tube, multi-tool, or a bottle of water. Why? Because we are all a family.

Be a part of the revitalization. Get involved. Be awesome (like the movie Space Jam).

Our city is awesome and so are the people that live in it.

New 708 Cycling Site Is Up

Screen Shot 2013-04-10 at 9.25.05 PM708 Cycling’s new site is up and running. I spoke with Kurt last week and he gave me the heads up on some of the new products coming out in the the 2013 Spring/Summer Collection. 708 has a new full line of locally handmade eco-friendly products, and I personally can’t wait to see the new G1 Backpack.

SpokedSTL Team In Full Effect

The SpokedSTL track team is really looking good. I’ve seen a lot of progress over the past 5 weeks of clinics. Everyone is really pushing themselves hard and it’s beginning to show. We are a force to be reckoned with this year.

Thanks to Ernesto for the photos.

USAC Calls More Women To Race Track

USAC recently posted an article calling for women interested in track racing to give it a try. I’ve done my best to post topics that I feel may interest women, because I still feel like cycling can be a bro-fest. Case and point; there are 22 people on the SpokedSTL Team, 3 of which are women.

St. Louis’ Penrose Park Velodrome community is very tight knit, especially the women. There are less than 20 ladies on any given night, and since they race together on a regular basis they have grown very close and support each other quite a bit. This season the entire track family is expected to explode in numbers with both new racers and a whole slue of spectators. This can be the opportunity for more women to give the track a spin.

Bridge 2 Bridge Race Announced!

b2bHello, loyal readers.

The first SpokedSTL race of the summer has been announced. I know what you’re thinking, “Summer? What the hell is that? Didn’t it just snow like 9 inches in St. Louis yesterday?” Well, yeah you’re right. I’ll spare you another rant about Mother Nature, global warming, and intoxicated weather men . So while I’m busy biting my tongue, check out the “Bride 2 Bridge: Route 3 Sprint” race info here. It’s gonna be hot!
